HE’S already raised £4,000 for Havens Hospices with his marathon-running efforts. Now Echo sports reporter Chris Phillips is organising a fundraising bash to try to boost his total further.
The show will feature X Factor contestants Two Shoes, and comics including the Boy With Tape on His Face, who entertained royalty at the Royal Variety Show last year.
Chris said: “I ran the London Marathon for Little Havens Children’s Hospice and I’ve always done something to tie in with my runs. This time, I decided it would be a celebration of finishing and make more money for the charity.
“I put an appeal on Twitter to see if anyone had any ideas and Gary from the Joker Comedy Club approached me. I thought I’d get Two Shoes involved, as I’m quite good friends with one of the girls, Charlotte.”
The show is being sponsored by Essex Kilns.
Chris was inspired to raise money for Havens after coming across its work though sports events it was involved in.
He said: “I’d been along to cover events Havens did and once I went to Little Havens.
“When you see the children and what they go through and what their families go through and what the charity provides it’s amazing.”
Two Shoes plus the Boy With Tape on His Face, Ash Frith, Mark Isambard, John Mann and one more act to be confimed are can be seen at the Chalkwell Park Rooms, in Chalkwell Park, Southend, on May 31 from 8pm.
Tickets are £12 and available from Chris on 07812 150296 or by e-mailing chris.phillips@nqe.com
