A NEW nautical-themed garden is set to built on an unused bit of land near Concord Beach on Canvey.

Joan Liddiard and Janice Payne, both councillors for the South ward, have secured £2,000 of funding from the Canvey East Neighbourhood Committee to create the new part of the existing Lifeguards Garden, off Eastern Esplanade.

The new garden will feature a centrepiece rowing boat filled with plants, along with benches for families to sit and relax on.

The 5th Canvey Air Scouts has also volunteered to look after the plants and help design the garden.

Mrs Payne, who is a member of the Canvey Island Independent Party, said: “This project has been in the pipeline for two years and it’s great to have come this far.

“The Scouts will be helping design the garden and take care of it. It’s a lovely community project for everyone to be involved with.

“We hope to transform this bit of land in time to make it an area where a family can relax after spending a day on the beach.

“The garden is going to have a nautical theme in order to keep it in line with the name of the garden.

“We hope in time to also get some benches installed to really make the most of the area.”

The boat, which has been donated to the project, is called White Waves and comes from a house in Thorney Bay Road.

Mrs Liddiard added: “This is a lovely project and it’s been great to get the Scouts involved, they are going to do a great job.

“We hope to have the boat in place within three weeks and it will be filled with soil and a range of different plants. It’s going to be a lovely area to relax once finished.

“This really is a piece of land which is doing nothing and with the community coming together it’s going to be transformed.”

This is the extent of their ability another £2000 of tax payers money being spent to add to Concord beach, for the benefit of the cafe owner, who I believe is friend, family and CIIP member, who still park their vehicles in restricted area on the wall.
If this had been anyone else there would be INDIES complaining.

Indeed, probably not long.

It will either need fencing off with barbed wire on top, or a high fence with floodlights and CCTV coverage.

I just cant get over your comments, seriously have you nothing better to do then moan about a poultry £2000 being spent giving local kids something to focus on and getting involved in their local area for the good. You should be renamed Victor Meldrew.
How can anyone moan about something that will improve an area as well as giving youngsters something to focus on? in this case the sea scouts. £2000 is a blip in the ocean compared with the vast ammount CPBC are wasting on such things like a non existant core strategy and still counting.

I have no problem with the scouts, in fact I'm a supporter. My problem is with CIIP members continual support of this business (Concord Cafe) due to their close family and friendship ties, never given, support to Mick's cafe and or the Bay cafe let a loan the toddler group at the Monico.
£2000 support along with everything else to a small business is alot.

I fail to see your point, this is about turning what is a baron eyesore piece of land into a pleasent relaxing area, using £2000 awarded and giving local younsters an opportunity to feel proud about their local area by having them get involved in creating and designing it. Yet you spout on about the cafe? So what! Personally if its as you say the "INDIES" are responsible for this then they should be commended surely..
Some people are proud about the place's they live and work yet their are those that would have them hung drawn and quartered for daring to make these area's a nicer place to visit.
