A HEALTHY lifestyle workshop will take place to ease parents concerns about a rise in overweight children.

Latest government figures show that South Essex has bucked the downward trend across the east of England and seen the number of overweight youngsters rise from 16 percent to 18 percent.

Health and fitness expert Jenna Govier, who co-owns the Excel Health and Performance gym in Progress Road, Leigh, will run the workshop.

Taking place at the Skylark Hotel on Aviation Way, Southend, from 7.30pm tomorrow, July 18, the interactive session will include food samples and recipes to take away.

Keys issues covered include how food builds the brain and improves sleep and behaviour, portion sized and healthy alternative to popular children's treats.

Mrs Govier said: "Parents want to do right by their kids but are bombarded by conflicting advice. A lot of food and snacks touted as healthy by advertisers are full of hidden sugar and salt.

"I want mums and dads to find out the truth behind gimmicks and use my simple, tasty and good value recipe ideas so that, together, we really can change the worrying health prospects of the next generation."
