Royal Philharmonic Orchestra teach students in Southend
2:43pm Tuesday 24th July 2012 in News
SOME of Britain’s top musicians have provided tips to youngsters from Southend as part of a project to launch a youth orchestra.
Members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led a workshop for child musicians at Southend Adult Community College, in Ambleside Drive, which is the new home of Southend Music Education Hub.
In September, auditions will be held at the hub for a youth orchestra set to be formed for talented young musicians aged under 19 from Southend to be a part of.
Anyone interested in auditioning, please email musicservices@southend.gov.uk .

It seems to be that there is a lot of emphasis put on electronic music (which is not surprising as it is a progression from Classical music) but not many children are encouraged to learn classical instruments.
It is fantastic that some of the members from the Royal Phil are taking time out to introduce pupils to classical instruments and long may it continue. But in this day and age of where music lessons are expensive and the time that pupils can take out of class relatively short I am not sure as to whether classical music in schools is going to last.

I have noticed that with the passing of time the importance on Classical Music is waning hence why all these organisations are disappearing.
