PLANS to create a lasting legacy ay Hadleigh Country Park have been approved by Castle Point Council.

A new visitors centre, replacement business units, a larger pay and display car park and new walking and cycling tracks were all given the go-ahead at the controversial meeting.

More than 300 people turned out to the meeting to also hear the outcome of proposals and to hear the debate on plans to build 150 new homes at land off Kiln Road in Thundersley.

Both planning applications were passed- chief planning officer Steve Rogers said there were no planning grounds to refuse either proposal.

There are PLENTY OF PATHS for walkers and cyclists already, and cyclists don't want hard paths, enough of them round town, we want to cycle on the dirt, that is why we go over there on our MOUNTAIN BIKES. Not rocket science is it?

The housing is on green belt and every Councillor of whatever party are opposed to building on it.
However, watch this space......

It depends what you mean by hard paths! Some kind of finishing is nice, so you’re not covered in mud a week since it’s rained!

A senseless decision.

It seems to only be the councillors who want this.

An utter disgrace.

Castle Point Council are determined to ruin our area. What happened to representing the people? A bunch of self serving bullies the lot of them! Won't be long before Southend and Basildon towns are joined up with any patch of unspoilt green in between completely done away with!

Another swathe of green belt to be lost. between Hadleigh Park and belton Hills (Havens Hospice) there will be less and less of green space.
Shared space for Cyclists and walkers does not work, why do planners persist in doing this. Just because something works somewhere else does not mean it will work here with so little green area left. Soon we will not be able to go anywhere without paying. We have no other stretches of green areas which are free of building. No more free parking therefore nothing is free anymore. This is an area that used to be shrubs and walks. Now look at the picture - fields. Badgers will never more either. Loks like we will have to move up north to get green areas - Southend and Castle Point could learn from what they have done in many places.
We were told the Mountain Bike area would turn into a cycling area and now we are promised 2 cycling areas.
they will have to put up notices - no dogs or walkers - Unsafe.

Speak for yourself like you have.

Why speak as though it is not wanted by everyone other than Councillors!

You, me and the Council have no idea what people do or do not want!

However as a facility for the young and providing another amen

great shame left benfleet arfter 55 years brought up with a lot of green belt in the late 1950 spent many years on the downs who are castle point councillors dont they have a heart. a excuse to build houses next on the downs

I am convinced that the reason certain Councillors are pushing so heavily for these wide tracks to be placed strategically through the Downs will be to change the status from a Greenfield site to Brownfield site. Then in a few years time, up go the plans to build 5 million council houses! If Mr Castle tells us it could never happen, we'll certainly believe him won't we?
