Fisherman fined after crashing boat into Southend Pier

A FISHERMAN who crashed his boat into Southend Pier has been ordered to pay almost £13,000 in costs and fines.
John William Smith, 52, had been the skipper of the Paul Patrick when it crashed at about 7.05am on February 17.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to failing to keep a proper look-out, under the regulations for the prevention of collisions at sea.
He was ordered to pay a £3,000 fine, £9,873.28 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
