I didn't said drink isn't responsible for crime, it's the number 1 cause. I was implying most people who go out to a club with coke are probably not going to drink alot. Deciding to beat, kill & rob somebody for their weed doesn't make weed resposible, doesn't make weed a cause of crime

anecdotally. I saw a tramp rolling a joint the other day i have also seen a large amount of scum bags wearing crap stained McKenzie tracksuits in warrior square smoking joints as if it where the most bourgeois thing in the world.

there are a considerately high number of 'living adverts' for the drug everywhere I look.

yes the same can be said for alcohol. but alcohol has been 'legal and taxed' since the year dot...

That makes it ok for untold thousands to be beaten, stabbed, glassed, robbed by alcohol addicts does it?

My belief is, a drug itself isn't good or bad, or safe or dangerous...only the use to which it is put and the resulting outcome can be judged good or bad, safe or dangerous.
I consider chronic alcohol abuse to have a very negative effect on society but if I have an occasional glass of wine with my dinner I consider that OK, likewise if a surgeon uses alcohol to clean and sterilize a wound or surgical instrument the alcohol is being used to positive effect.
Same with knives, vehicles, wealth and power...all can be used or misused.
Drugs can be used responsibly to positive effect. I can't accept that something should be prohibited because some irresponsible people happen to misuse those things to the detriment of society. Cases of drink-driving occur, alcohol isn't prohibited, vehicles aren't prohibited.

The law should be there to deal with the mis-users, not to make criminals of the majority of responsible users.

In addition I don't believe the state should have jurisdiction over what someone chooses to put into their own body.

I accept that some people do not seem to show any ill effects after smoking cannabis. When have I ever denied the risks or said the NHS says it's alright to toke? Never! But, everything from coffee to horse riding has a risk (ten people die each year from horse riding), the question is always how much risk and how serious are the consequences. Where cannabis is concerned the risk is minimal and considerably less than any other recreational drug, which includes alcohol of course. Can't be bothered arguing with bigots who are unable to learn.
