Suspected arsonist arrested in Westcliff

A MAN was arrested last night on suspicion of starting four rubbish fires at the back of shops in Westcliff.

The worst was Hugs & Kisses card shop in Hamlet Court Rd, where the lives of people in three storeys of flats above were endangered because the fire spread to into the roof cavity below the only fire escape stairs.

The man was caught after owner of Westcliff Fish Bar provided CCTV to police. Other victims were Tesco Express and Piano Pavilion in London Road.
