Toddler bitten on arm and head in dog attack
8:20am Thursday 13th September 2012 in News By Gina Marden
A TODDLER was bitten on the arm and head by a dog.
A police hunt is now underway to find both the dog and its owner.
The three-year-old girl was playing in the park in Somercotes, Laindon when she was approached by the dog, which is thought to be a breed similar to a Pit Bull Terrier.
Suddenly it bit the toddler and then left the scene with the young girl.
The incident happened at 2.30pm on Sunday.
Witnesses can contact police at Basildon on 101.

I'm surprised comments have been allowed, as the story about the woman and her "lovely dogs" didn't have comments enabled.
That didn't surprise me.

The scum out there who don't have their dogs chipped, who don't control them, who leave the scene when their dogs bite someone… do you seriously think they will bother to get licenses?
And so what if they do? How does a dog being licensed help the police track down owners after attacks like this?

WHO would gain from the dog license IF it was returned?
AS a responsible owner, AND clean-up after my dog, I would be willing to have a license, but depending on the cost due to being a Senior Citizen existing on a pittance of a pension, then WHERE the money is actually spent.
Okay, so I am on a pittance of an income, but so long as my now Soul-mate gets fed, I am prepared to make alternative arrangements for myself, even if it is bread and jam as a meal.

Cats are wild bird killing machines that shyt anywhere other than their own gardens, with moronic pet loving spam heads that feel the need to have 4 cats.
I have a dog trained to eat cats.

Just for the record, once a dog has been "allowed" and "encouraged" to kill a cat or another animal, there is no stopping it's desire to attack and subsequently kill. A child (or human) may be its next, (trophy!)

P.S. I have, now, trained my cats to "shyt" on your head, should you be passing by. Mind you, it's better than being mauled, disfigured or killed, don't you think?

I have 2 GSD's and the amount of strangers who feel it is their god given right to stroke my dogs without asking is unbelievable. So does that mean I can go up to a stranger and rub, tickle and run my hand through their hair because U like the look of them, I don't think so...
It is very bad when a dog bites a human or another dog and sticter controls and rules about the competance and capabilities of the owner of the breed, do they know what that breed is bred to do, do they know the temperament of the dog and how quick it can change if stressed, spooked etc. The right breed with the right owner will mean less attacks and dumped dogs.
I hope the toddler doesn't have a fear of dogs because of the action of one owner and I really hope the parents don't contribute to prolonging any fear that may not be there to start with.

This is a 3 year old child that was attacked.
By the way, if permission is needed to stroke a dog, should they ask the dog first, if off the lead?
If a dog is running free and in an open space, interaction will occur between all those using the space.
If anyone owns a dog, who could be uncontrollable in such an area, keep them tethered.
In an open park, children will play with children, scream and shout.
Not a place for dogs off the lead.

Some people will never be happy with dogs being off lead just as some people will never be happy to keep them on a lead. What happened is awful and i hope the owner of the dog does get prosecuted, but i also hope that the dog goes to a hem that will treat it properly and give it the training, care that it may not have got currently.
