Southend Pier is a record-breaker
3:11pm Friday 14th September 2012 in News
SOUTHEND Pier’s railway has been recognised as an official record-breaker.
The mile-long track has won a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s longest pleasure pier railway.
The Grade II-listed structure on which it sits was already recognised as the world’s longest pleasure pier.
Derek Jarvis, the Tory councillor responsible for the pier, said: “We are thrilled by this achievement because we’re told only eight per cent of the records collected go on to be featured in the actual Guinness Book of Records.
“It is yet another way to help keep Southend and its well-loved heritage in the public eye.”
