THE Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, will be a guest of honour when the Royal Anglian Regiment marches through Basildon .

The 68-year-old royal, who is 21st in line to the throne, will be part of the formal procession as 200 soldiers from the regiment’s 1st Batallion parade through the town square.

The event, the first time so many troops from the regiment, nicknamed the Vikings, will have marched through the borough, will take place on Thursday, November 8.

The Duke, who is also the Colonel in Chief of the regiment, will “inspect” the soldiers as they march from Toys R Us at 12.30pm down to St Martin’s Square for 12.40pm.

nice to see the echo taking notice of our boys now they have returned and royals are involved .i have contacted them several times to do weekly write ups like the Norfolk papers do for there local lads each time i was told yes that is something we would defiantly be interested in doing for the Essex lads and not once did they return my calls. or show any interest in our Vikings even though several are born and breed Basildon boys , im sure they will be more than interested the day of the homecoming parade as it will sell papers...THANKS FOR SUPPORTING OUR SONS WHILST ON TOUR
