Ford's latest job cuts will affect Dunton workers
12:30pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in News
DUNTON workers could be out of a job after car giant Ford announced a wave of redundancies.
The Unite union has called for "full involvement" following the announcement today that 275 managerial roles will be axed.
The job losses, which will be on a voluntary basis, will be at Ford’s Warley headquarters, near Brentwood, and at the research and development centre at Dunton, near Basildon.
In total, 500 similar jobs are going across Ford’s Europe operations, as the company faces massive losses.

Massive losses...when a bread and butter car like the SMax costs so very much (list). No wonder people buy better value alternatives. They are pricing themselves out of business.
Or fleet buyers. They charge what they think the market will stand, and price it alongside competitors vehicles of a similar Spec. Trouble for them is, that market is collapsing, and there are good vehicles being made by people like Kia etc

It houses the Ford Europe design team, the Ford RS team, and is responsible for designing the Ford Fiesta, Ford KA, and the Econetic and Ecoboost engines. Dunton is very important to Ford, and will be here for a very long time yet.
I bet The Council are panicking, they'll be fearing it'll lead to FoMoCo moving out of Dunton altogether with all that land going for housing redeveloment without Ball, Buckley, Blake et l getting anything out of it.... Can't blame this one on Stumpy......
Bit sensationalist again by the Echo - as already pointed out, jobs are going at management level and by voluntary redundancy.
The redundancies are part of a large restructuring by Ford of Europe, based on the template seen in the US last year. It involves new models being made available to the market, including the Mustang and new SUVs.
It's a slow process, which will take some time to turn the fortunes of the European arm around, but Dunton will be a central aim to that.
