Canvey boy given commendation for helping woman
A SCHOOLBOY who rushed to the aid of a woman in distress has received a commendation from the mayor.
Connall Mahoney heard the woman’s cries after she suffered a fall in Westwood Road, Canvey, and bravely stepped in.
He put into practice the knowledge he had gained from a ‘Crucial Crew’ event that summer, which teaches youngsters what to do in an emergency.
Connall, 11, who lives on Canvey, said: “I was walking behind the lady and her grand-daughter but lost sight of them when they turned a corner.
As I came around the corner I saw her lying on the pavement and could see that she was bleeding.
“I went to the nearest house and got someone to call for an ambulance and then went back to the lady.
I sat with her and held her hand and talked to her to keep her calm until help arrived. What I had heard at Crucial Crew came back to me.
I remembered that keeping the person calm stops the blood rushing.”
The Mayor of Castle Point, Peter Burch, presented him with a letter of commendation and a £15 i-tunes token from Castle Point Community Safety Partnership.
