2:34pm Friday 5th October 2012 in News By Emma Thomas
RESIDENTS living near a military firing range are being warned there will be some noise and disruption over the next two weeks.
Qinetiq, which operates at MOD Shoeburyness will be carrying out testing from Monday, October 8 to Friday, October 19.
On Monday and Tuesday, some public rights of way will be closed overnight and people may be able to hear explosions coming from the site from 8am on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, October 12 there will be no disturbance.
On Monday, October 16 some public rights of way will be closed again overnight and there will be gunfire and explosions that may be heard from the site between 9am and 5pm for the rest of that week.
Qinetiq says the activities are not an increase in the usual use of the site and weather conditions may change where the noise will be heard.
Anyone that has concerns about range activity should call 0800 0560108.

Remember when I was a kid living in Shoebury High Street back in the early 60's the warning of heavy firing or night firing would be a bloke riding around the area on a bike with a megaphone. If it was heavy firing then my mother and Gran would go round the house opening all the sash windows an inch, if it was night firing then we'd stick small wedges in the sashes to stop them rattling too much and keeping us awake, funnily enough we seemed to sleep through the guns but not the rattling windows.
