Benfleet station to close over Christmas

WORK to repair a 100 year-old railway bridge at Benfleet will force the station to close over the festive period.

Passengers using the c2c service from Christmas Eve, December 24, until New Year’s Eve, December 31, will have to use rail replacement buses between Leigh and Pitsea.

The rail company took the decision to carry out the major project at this time to cause minimal disruption to the thousands of passengers who rely on trains to get to and from work.

Oh this is just great, so this will affect all the London West End sale shopping. Getting a bus between Benfleet and Pitsea will add at least 30 mins to the journey each way.
On the plus side it'll save me money because it'll put me off going.
C2C are being totally thoughtless as per usual.

As opposed to doing this when the trains are at standing only capacity like the other 51 weeks of the year? It's inconvenient but I would rather be disrupted during the festive break when it's relatively quiet both on the trains and at work.

I know, it's so thoughtless of C2C to carry out these works when they'll cause disruptions to the handful of bargain seekers using the train when they could quite easily do the week during the work period and cause delays to the thousands and thousands of work commuters instead!

yes, how thoughtless of them eh?

I think they should have waited for the hundred year old bridge to fall down before deciding to do anything about it, after all it might have lasted a few more years......

Maybe they could use the same contractors that are working at Sadlers Farm, then the line would be up and running again in time for Easter.

More proof that c2c are the best train line in the country, utilising without doubt the quietest period of the whole year to undertake vital maintenance. How anyone can have an aggrievance about this is beyond me.

As usual c2c are lacking in the information dept. When things are all normal they're fine, any little problem & they fall apart at the seams with no, or incorrect, information. Their own advanced engineering page is showing works up to Jan 6th 2013, but no mention of this closure!

Which Easter are you talking about, 2014 or 2015?

The C2C website does indeed list the closure and glad to see it gives you the option of ravelling on the GA line instead (with a C2C ticket).

That Benfleet station is closed for Christmas is that really news? I assume Pitsea Station and Leigh will be open so as Benfleet station is smack in between and will run a bus service this must be the non story of the year.

try commuting from Basildon we get an offpeak services for peak prices - complain about a lack of seats and you're told to change at Laindon - a promise to ensure all peak were restored to 12 carriages into London made a few years ago, conviniently forgotten.
This is not a temporary problem as with the work at Benfleet but a permanent problem that c2c ignore and the local newspapers will not take up for fear of losing the advertising revenue
