Serial burglar admits 81 crimes
2:00pm Monday 15th October 2012 in News
A SERIAL burglar has admitted committing an astonishing 81 crimes.
Darren Girling, 35, appeared before Basildon Crown Court where he held his hands up to the break-ins.
He pleaded guilty to five high-value burglaries in Leigh and Westcliff between November last year and this February.
But he asked the court to take a further 67 burglaries and six attempted burglaries into consideration. (TIC)
On top of that, he also asked for two thefts of motor vehicles and one instance of interfering with a motor vehicle to be taken into consideration.
This means the court can impose no separate penalty for these crimes, because he came forward to admit them himself at the same time.
He had stolen more than £66,000 of goods from the five burglaries in the Leigh and Westcliff areas alone.
The court’s only address listed for Girling is at Chelmsford Prison.
But during his hearing he was given unconditional until his sentencing in March next year.
The sentencing was deferred for so long so he could have a chance of self-improvement first.
Police refused to comment because Girling is yet to be sentenced.
