Southend library work on schedule Southend library work on schedule

SOUTHEND’S new library is rising steadily from the ground with work on schedule.

The £27million project started in March and includes a library complex and new public square.

The scruffy Farringdon car park in Elmer Approach, Southend, was demolished to make way for the development called The Forum which is due to open in September 2013.

It will be Essex’s first 24-hour library. It will replace Central Library, in Victoria Avenue, and will become one of the main study centres for students at Essex University’s Southend campus and South Essex College.

pointless addition to broken southend.
No one does librarys,this 2012 not 1912.
Don't need librarys I can get my reading matter from a newsagent.
And clearly the lack of interest in this library is refelected in the fact no one is commenting on this article.

Went in to central libeary for the first time is 8 months today, have to say it was quite busy, all the computers on the first floor were in use as were the newspaper machines, the second floor probably had about 30 people on it, and there was aclass of kids in the kids section. I say it was still popular. The noise of the demolition of Portcullis House could be heard, was a bit shocked when I saw it was coming down, thought it was one of those buildings that would always be there.

prehaps the lack of postings had something to do with the way the Southend Footbal match thread deceneded in to the farce it did with Eek a house posting over an over again, thankfully they have deleted all the postings.

I can understand that you get your reading matter from Newsagents because libraries do not stock girly mags.

What a waste of money. There's nothing wrong with the library we already have.
