DETECTIVES have released CCTV after a gun was pointed at several people in a Southend carpark.

The incident happened at Seaway carpark, in Lucy Road, where a group of people reported they had a firearm brandished at them.

Police were contacted shortly after 4am on Friday, September 28 and managed to arres four men in a car on the A127 at Rayleigh a short time later.

The men, two aged 20 and two aged 21, and all from the Grays area have been bailed.

A gas-powered handgun was recovered.

The Echo released an appeal at the time but no one has come forward.

Police now want to speak to the seven men in the CCTV images as they would have seen what happened in the carpark that night.

Anyone with information should contact detectives at Southend police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

A gas powered handgun... that'll be a low powered airgun then. An airgun technically is a handgun, I'll give you that, but "handgun" is a very strong word to use when referring to an airgun.

It could have been an airsoft gun that fires plastic pellets. They can look remarkably like the real thing. I know so because I have one. The gas versions can be powerful but will leave no more than a tiny bruise if hit at close range.
It is not illegal to own one and use on private property but, because they look like the real thing, it is illegal to brandish one in public.

Yes, they can be bought legally, but the people in this article would seem to have broken several laws around their usage in public.

It is a question of intent. Was he trying to cause 'fear of violence'? If so, the law cares not whether it was a real firearm, an immitation firearm or a gas-powered clone of a real firearm. Personally, at 4am in a dark car park, I wouldn't really want to go and inspect it to see which category it belongs to! Lock him up.

Airgun centre Rayleigh, basically built by the same companies as Walther, Colt, Beretta etc. they are infact revolvers that look like a semi automatic pistol. Generally fires .177 calibre lead pellets the guns are cast from metal and fire 8 shots from a magazine, at close range they will really hurt someone and will put hole through a coke can at 20 yards (if you can hit it!).

They were brought out when hand guns were banned in Britain by people who enjoyed the discipline of practical pistol shooting.
