Gems - PC Darren Fountain with the jewellery box

DETECTIVES are trying to reunite a stolen jewellery box containing trinkets and family photos with its owner.

Police believe the dark brown leather box, containing rings, necklaces, pendants, chains, earrings and bracelets was stolen during a burglary.

Officers recovered the box during a house search of a suspected thief.

Two small family photographs were found. One shows a couple and a boy aged about ten and the other shows a boy on his own.

Det Con Martin Watson, of Basildon CID, said: "We are pretty certain these were taken during a burglary in Basildon.

"We hope publicity will help us to return the box to its original owners."

Contact Det Con Watson at Basildon CID on 01268 244009.
