Churches try mediation between travellers and locals
CHURCH leaders will today thrash out how to improve relations between travellers and the settled community.
Father John Glynn, of Our Lady of Good Counsel, London Road, Wickford, will host the event at his church.
Church Network for Gypsies and Travellers seeks to mediate where disputes between travellers and the settled community exist.
Father Glynn said: "It brings together clergy from Roman Catholic and Church of England churches who have traveller congregations. One issue discussed will be community relations."
A separate eviction safety meeting is planned to go ahead at Essex Fire and Rescue headquarters in Brentwood on Tuesday if the High Court ruling goes against the travellers.
It would be chaired by the Human Rights and Equalities Commission.
