Playground gets a £2,000 facelift

A REAL community effort has resulted in a Thurrock school's playground being given a £2,000 spruce up.

Thameside Junior School in Manor Road, Grays, has been given a makeover thanks to businesses and individuals clubbing together to help.

Tony Scott, from the Royal Bank of Scotland, offered a helping hand in more ways than one when he donated £500 towards the project and offered the services of his staff to do the work.

Mr Scott chose to donate the money because his daughter, Molly, is in Year Five at the school.

Travis Perkins, of Grays, provided the materials and tools for the job, while wheelbarrows were donated by Grays firm Speedy Hire.

Wrights Caterers, of Manor Road, kept the workers fed with lunches which were purchased by the school. Headteacher Mike Walsh said: "It was very kind of our local community to give up their time to support Thameside.

"The children are delighted to be able to use the playground again.

"My sincere thanks go to Mr Scott and the Royal Bank of Scotland, as this project would not have been completed so quickly had we not had their support."
