HUNDREDS of people turned out for the opening of a new, bespoke, dress shop in Leigh.

Kim Cannon-Carter fulfilled a lifelong dream of opening her own store at the weekend and the seamstress could not have been happier with how it went.

After spending 15 years working out of studios she now has The Dressmaker, a store to call her own at 71 Broadway West, Leigh.

The store opened on Saturday and the Echo managed to get a sneak peek at Kim’s hand-made dresses before the masses flooded in to have a look round.

Kim, 33, said: “I’ve been doing this for about 15 years so this has been a long time coming.

“I started off just doing it as a hobby but I want people to know that it is not expensive to have your own dress made.

Echo:

“I do proms, mother of the bride, things for occasions, but I also have a base of customers who have their day to day stuff made – I’d rather everybody could afford it than me just doing one dress every two weeks and charging the earth.”

The store will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm, with late night opening on Thursdays, until 8pm.
