PUPILS from a German school have visited a school on Canvey to learn about English culture.

Furtherwick Park School, in Furtherwick Road, played host to 31 12 year olds and two teachers from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium, in Aachen, Germany.

The German pupils joined Furtherwick students in lessons in art and media and had a go at performing scientific experiments and baking cakes.

They also visited Castle Point Transport Museum and toured Canvey on an open-top bus, before heading to London to visit Buckingham Palace and ride on the London Eye.

Teacher Norman Bradley, who organised the visit, said: "The German students have had an educational learning experience and thoroughly enjoyed meeting our students."

Although the school does not teach German, Mr Bradley said the visit helped increase pupils' awareness of the world.

Another set of students from the German school plan to return next year while Furtherwick pupils are also set to visit Aachen, close to the border with Holland and Belgium.

The kids came from a large metropolitan city in germany & learn "the queen's" english. I thinks it's great for them to see a school in a smaller community and hear that english sounds different in every region.
