A DOG owner has been given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation after her pet attacked a young girl.

Elizabeth Burton, 42, of Luncies Road, Basildon, admitted being the owner of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which was dangerously out of control and injured a 13-year-old girl on April 2 this year.

Burton was ordered to pay £285.04 in compensation.

A condition of the discharge was that unless her dogs Bruno and Saffy are kept under proper control by being securely held on a lead by a person older than 15 years old and being securely fitted with a muzzle sufficient to prevent it biting anyone.

She has two dogs but was unsure which inflicted the injury so the order includes both.
