VANDALS have struck again on Canvey as wing mirrors were kicked off ten vehicles in just one street.

Residents in Gainsborough, were disturbed just before 11pm as groups of teenagers marched up and down the road smashing the wing mirrors.

At least ten cars were damaged, while residents also reported other unruly behaviour which included stealing items off an elderly resident’s washing line.

A number of wing mirrors were found lined up on the floor in the park, and one resident said they saw the teenagers sitting on the mirrors until they broke.

Residents fear the damage was caused by teenagers who gather in Kismet Park regularly during the evening.

One resident, who had his car damaged, but asked not to be named due to fear of retaliation, said: “We phoned the police about 10.45pm after our next door neighbour knocked on our window and alerted us that they had seen two lads break off our car wing mirror. The police said they would try and send someone out.

“Around half an hour later our neighbour told us they had seen them again. One was thin with a hoodie on and the other was big and stocky with black curly hair, both about 19-years-old.

“We called the police again who told us they couldn’t get anyone out to us. They obviously hang around in the park further down the road and a number of wing mirrors were found there. Mine wasn’t recovered. I have emailed MP Rebecca Harris so we shall see what she says.”

Another resident added: “We saw two lads loitering, they were so loud and brash, not inconspicuous at all.

“We thought they were up to something but couldn’t quite see what they were doing.

“From what I could see, they were clearly intoxicated.

“That’s when we saw them sit on my neighbours car wing mirror and then put increasing pressure on it until it broke off so we told our neighbour straight away. We then saw them with a sheet wrapped around them and later found out they had taken another elderly resident’s washing off her line.

“Their behaviour is absolutely disgraceful and something needs to be done.”
