A man sustained serious injuries to his face after he was attacked with a knife inside a car.

The attack happened at around 7pm on Wednesday December 20.

The victim, a 26-year-old man from Westcliff, was sitting in a parked car on London Road, near to Ceylon Road.

While he was sitting in the vehicle, a man approached and asked him a question.

The man then attacked the victim with a knife.

Following the assault, he rode off on a pushbike towards the Plough pub, going towards Leigh.

After police attended the incident, the victim was taken to hospital, where he was treated for a deep cut above his eye.

The victim described his attacker to the police.

He said the man was mixed race, around 5ft 8ins tall, of a larger build and between the age of 19 and 25.

The man had a tattoo on his neck and he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with tracksuit bottoms.

Police say that this is an isolated incident.

They are investigating the incident and appealing for any witnesses who may have seen what happened that night.
