A street drinker will be subject of a criminal behaviour order (CBO) for an extra five years.

David Binks, who has been a prolific street drinker for a number of years, was arrested by officers in Southchurch Avenue, Southend, on January 1, for breaching his original two-year CBO.

It had been issued on August, 5, 2016 and banned him from:

  • Entering the borough of Southend
  • Being in possession of an open vessel of alcohol in a public place except within a licensed premises or residential premises
  • Drinking alcohol in a public place except in licensed premises or residential premises.

The 50-year-old from Southend, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, criminal damage and breaching the CBO at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 22. He was jailed for eight weeks and given a five year extension on the order.

The conditions of the CBO now include:

  • Not entering London Road, between Chalkwell Avenue and the Prince’s Street Sainsbury’s supermarket in Southend.
  • Not entering the area bounded by Milton Road, London Road, Hamlet Court Road and Station Road in Westcliff.
  • Not entering either the Training Room or Cricketers public houses.
  • Not being seated outside 94 to 98 Southchurch Avenue in Southend.

Southend Community Policing Team Inspector Ian Hughes said: “Binks is a prolific and aggressive street drinker, who causes harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public.

“This CBO extension ensures Binks is kept away from the streets of Southend until August 2023 and is welcomed by the Southend community.”
