Nursery allowed to return home

A NURSERY'S bid to return home has been passed by councillors, to the relief of parents.

Downhall Under Fives feared for its future if the plan to rebuild its base in Ferndale Road, Rayleigh, had been blocked.

Officers for Rochford District Council, which owns the land, had recommended it be turned down because the development was on green belt land and there was not enough off-street parking provided.

But during an emotional meeting last (Thursday) night, which was packed out with concerned parents, both Tory and Lib Dem councillors voted 16 to two to pass the motion.

As the current Chairperson at Downhall Under 5's preschool I was on the edge of my seat last night as our future went to a vote at the planning meeting. This is the best outcome we could have hoped for, a permanant home for the preschool, finally allowed to return to our former residence in Ferndale Road. The hard work starts now as we begin to apply for funding. As a charity run organisation every penny counts and we have worked very hard over the years fund raising to pay for the plans and work that has been carried out so far, most of the money coming from parents and friends! This preschool has for 21 years been providing an outstanding service to the local community and i ask that anyone in the local community who feels they may be able to help us in anyway to please contact myself at the following email address hayley.mitchell@umus
