Has New Labour out foxed itself by banning hunting? If, as Trevor Murdin contends, the fox population has exploded, why have we not heard the farmers bleating about it?

Unlike Trevor’s visitor, my resident foxes have a den in the railway embankment which has obviously been well established for decades.

The frustration of finding the grass regularly vandalised as they search for earthworms has been offset by the pleasure of watching the cubs playing.

But rather foxes than moles, since the latter cause so much damage to lawns, they really do deserve to receive an animal ASBO.
