Stitch up over airport vote

Rochford’s Tory councillors must think they are the bees knees.

Not only do they feel not able reveal the results of the so-called ballot asking residents what they wanted in relation to the extension of Southend Airport, but they also say only Tory members of the council can vote on the issue. What a stitch up that is!

I only hope someone who truly represents us will have the guts to stand up and insist voters have the right to a legal voice against airport takeover of our rights as individuals and still expect our undying support.

No one except its supporters, the minority, wants this monstrosity.

I think Mr Rudlin needs to learn the difference between a ballot and a consultation. The JAAP process was very much the latter - certainly not the former.
As for only the minority being in favour of the controlled expansion of the airport, I believe he is deluding himself there. The very fact that such a minute percentage of the population expressed opposition to the proposals in the JAAP consultation suggests that the vast majority are either in favour or neutral on the subject. That is perhaps because they recognise the economic benefits which will result for the area and have seen SAEN's exaggerations and campaign of scaremongering for just what it is.
