I received from Southend Council, hand delivered, the usual electoral roll form, which one is required by law to complete.
But why bother?
On the local front we have Southend Council doing its own thing regardless of what local people think.
It has reduced the town to little more than a dump, with a shopping centre not worth the visit. I prefer to drive to Leigh, Rayleigh, Chelmsford or Colchester, which have a better variety of small shops, as Southend once had.
Any remaining places of historic value have either been disfigured with laughable “award-winning designs” in an attemptto make it Southend-on-Med or anything other than what it historically is, a seaside town.
We’ve been waiting thirty years for the pier to be restored, and we’re still waiting.
On the national front, we have seen politicians following their own agendas for personal gain on the economy, immigration and expenses, regardless of the wishes of the electorate.
The political classes, local and national, will carry on in the same old way, regardless of whether or not we waste our time in perpetuating this annual farce of the electoral roll.
Surely at this time of austerity, the sensible thing would be to save the enormous national cost of this farce. David Cameron please note.
