We are now paying the price of capitalism, which relies on continuous growth, which is unsustainable whatever part of the equation you look at.
Correspondents should start realising that if humans keep multiplying, requiring ever more housing, food, land and jobs, and living longer, requiring a greater population to pay the pensions of the elderly, it is obvious the capitalist system will collapse.
Personally, I don’t think we are too far away from that point.
Creating false employment in the form of projects such as the 600 homes planned for Hall Road, Rochford, is not the answer, as even this is unsustainable.
The problems are caused by continuous population expansion, so the cycle just gets more complex as more and more resources are needed and used up year after year in an attempt to sustain this continual growth.
The consequences of human shortsightedness are all too apparent.
