WALKERS in Leigh got out their rubbish sacks and donned rubber gloves for a clean-up of one of the town's most sensitive wildlife areas.

The Traditional Touring Club - a walking and cycling club - set off to clean up the island that is home to a diverse range of insects and migrant birds.

Member Dennis Hill said: "Mark Bridges, the manager and ranger of Two Tree Island was delighted when our club offered to carry out a cleansing sweep of the badly littered north shore of the island. We tackled the creek edge but didn't disturb any of the birds."
