LEIGH Town Council has vowed to tackle parking problems and ease congestion following talks with residents and Southend Council.
A dangerous junction in the Marine Estate, Leigh, is to be modified following 11 letters from residents to the town council, warning of the risk to both drivers and pedestrians.
Currently, at the junction of Crescent Road, leading to Western Road, there is a give way sign, but this will be changed to a stop sign following a spate of minor accidents at the spot.

Residents in the Marine Estate, Leigh, are also to be consulted on a proposed plan by Leigh Town Council which will restrict commuters parking on their streets with a fee-based permit scheme which will be exempt for people living on the roads concerned.
Councillor Donald Fraser, chairman of the town council's transport and highways committee, said the decision follows repeated requests from residents to tackle the problem of congestion.
The questionnaire is being sent to all residents living north of Western Road, with the results expected to be published by May.
A restriction is in operation on roads south of Western Road, where no parking is permitted for one hour in the middle of the day from Monday to Friday, preventing commuters from parking on the roads leading to Leigh station.
Commuters will also be hit by the proposal of Southend Council to convert the Leigh Marshes car park, currently free, into a pay-and-display facility.
Geoff Fulford, Leigh town clerk, said: "Southend Council is going to do something, but we do not know what exactly. It is likely to be some form of pay-and-display.
"There is also going to be a yellow line added west of the household recycling centre to prevent people from parking there, as it is creating a hazard."
Mr Fulford also confirmed the parking permit scheme for streets leading directly off the Broadway in Leigh is being considered by Southend Council which is expected to conduct its own consultation.
I realise that it is very awkward for residents HOWEVER BE WARNED:
In the Moulsham Road area of Chelmsford there is 'Permit Only'
parking for miles and the streets are now empty HOWEVER residents now have become stranded and lonely because no friends and family members can visit unless they park in Chelmsford multi Storey car park and walk back which is miles away even harder if you have a young baby!!
AND workmen do not want to call to work in the houses because there is NO places whatsoever to park.
A VERY VERY DIFICULT PROBLEM TO SOLVE!
We recently had to work in a premises in Moulsham Street when we arrived we had no where to park and did not want to carry heavy equipment then leave our vehicle in a car park to get tools stolen.
Residents MIGHT be cutting off their nose to spite their face!

The entire parking situation needs to be looked at in Leigh. Its incredible , what measures have the councils over the years taken to improve and aid shoppers etc.
I know lets pay someone thousands of pounds to carry out a study, at least then stalling tatics can be applied.

Spare a thought for the commuters. They dont want to park outside someone elses home but £4 a day to park at the station carpark is a big chuck of disposable income for many. Restricting parking in these areas will just move the problem further out. Its unavoidable, many simply cant afford the charges. Buses are an alternative but they aren't frequent enough and they too are expensive.

There is an orchestrated campaign against 'The Car' using the excuse of Global warming, by this tax grabbing Govt.
What Politicians forget is that this area is BADLY served by Public Transport with buses 100 yrs old either crowded with free bus pass passengers or young kids misbehaving.
What is forgotten is that the wealth creators have no alternative but to use their vehicles so that they can work and then pay the taxes that create the wealth to pay for ALL the Benefit TAKERS.
What is wrong in providing cheap parking on the old tip area? AND using school bus transport the real reasons for congestion.
As for Global warming until the China and India situation is dealt with our pollution rate is considered zero in the real world!!
What the future holds in this fragmented,High benefit paying lawless society god only knows?

Why am I always hearing complaints from the residents of leigh ?.Surely they realise that they are NOT a special case.
