POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses today, Thursday, after a man from Canvey died in a crash on the A13.

The collision happened when a Rover 25 struck a stationary lorry in a lay-by off the westbound carriageway near Stanford-le-Hope just before 11am yesterday, November 7.

The driver, a man in his 80s from Canvey, was certified dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later today to establish the cause of death, after which the coroner will make a decision as to whether an inquest is heard or not.

Both carriageways of the A13 were initially closed while emergency services carried out their work, with the eastbound side re-opening at midday.

The westbound carriageway was closed for approximately five hours while the vehicle was recovered and forensic collision investigators carried out their work.
