Brave Frank is found dead on beach after Canvey burglary
11:00am Wednesday 21st November 2012 in Local News
Frank's devastated owners Lynn Seabrook and Terry Proctor
A BRAVE guard dog who was protecting his home from burglars when he was snatched during a break-in has been found dead on a beach.
Terry Proctor and Lynn Seabrook’s worst fears came true when they got a call from police on Saturday, November 17 to say their much loved pet Frank, a four-year-old Boston Terrier, had been found washed up on Shoebury beach.
Intruders broke into the couple’s home in May Avenue, Canvey, last week but left empty handed after ransacking the property looking for cash and jewellery.
However, when Mr Proctor, 49, discovered the break-in on November 13, Frank was nowhere to be seen and when Ms Seabrook, 50, discovered traces of blood and saliva on a set of franch doors in the house the next day they knew something bad must have happened to him.
Ms Seabrook, who is a cleaner at Oikos on Canvey, said Frank was “over protective” of his property and would have bitten the burglars, which may have prompted them to throw him against the doors and then dump him in the sea.
She was preparing appeal posters when the police called. She said: “Pets are not even safe in their houses now.
“I never expected this to happen, it’s terrible. I just hope he didn’t suffer too much and was unconscious when they chucked him in the sea, but we’ll never know.
“He was a good guard dog, well loved and liked, if anyone knocked at the door he was always by my side. I’m frightened to open the door now, it’s really shaken me up.
“We’ve had so much support and phone calls, it’s upset a lot of people, I just don’t want it to happen to anyone else.”
An Essex Police spokesman said: “Burglary is a horrible enough crime, often leaving victims very upset and this sort of thing makes it doubly awful.
“Essex Police deplores the actions of whoever did this and we will make every effort to find out who it was and bring them to justice.”
Officers returned Frank to Ms Seabrook and Mr Proctor on Saturday so he could be buried.
Anyone with information is still urged to contact Canvey police station on 101.

Six armed robberies on Canvey in five weeks, mugging of a lady in Deepwater Road last week, Councillor Howard's house has bricks thrown at it, etc etc and now this.
Just what next?
Not a dog lover, but this is just awful.

If crime had really reduced as much as we keep getting told then a 20 percent police budget cut would be easily managed, as there would be so many fewer crimes for them to detect that they would be spending all day telling people the time and helping old ladies across the road. That it is not so must cast doubt on all the statistics that we have been told over the years.

Then get your finger out rather than tell Mr Proctor that you had no intentions in sending scenes of crime officers until after the Echo made contact.

through this great penny pinching government. We also should have more police walking about day and night with longer prison terms ,for these waste of space layabouts that can't be botherd to work like normal people. So sick of the excuses they give

The dog deserves a medal it obviously was doing its job and got killed for it.
We have not seen the worst of crime that is to come and will come.
I am sick to death about being told crime figures are falling they are not the only reason is because they are being manipulated and a Berlin Wall has been built making it almost impossible to report crime or even to speak to a real policeman.
And with a 20% Police budget cut, a Government in power that has almost destroyed Police Morale, done nothing to improve law and order in fact worsened the situation so it is obvious even to a blind man worse is yet to come, so lock up, alarm up and keep a persuader under the bed, and that is why the Government are thinking about giving more rights to householders who fight back.
The local MP will be gone at the election as how often do you hear her remark about crime other than agree with cutting Police budgets and making ways to blame the Police easier.

In relation to the story, we all know that nothing will happen to them if caught, but I would love to get my hands on them and snap their scrawny little necks.

If you can kill a defenseless animal then human life is also worth nothing to these low lifes.

I had a bogus door step collector last week and reported it but didn't even get a reply. What is the point of a crime stopper no if they don't get back to you. We need more police not Commissioners - what a waste of public money yet again
