I fell very sorry for the injured gentleman.

Living very near to this roundabout, I have to say that this was an accident waiting to happen !!

Every day and night you can hear the squeal of car tyres as they go round this particular roundabout at high speed !

Something must be done to slow these idiot drivers down before another accident happens.

Or alternatively.......
.. Pedestrians could help themselves out by using the crossings provided rather than crossing the road "near" to them.

Incidentally, squealing tyres doesn't necessarily mean there is excessive speed, under inflated tyres and road surface can make tyres squeal at very low speeds.

However, I do agree that bad driving needs to be clamped down on but there's been no evidence that the driver was to blame yet.

Hope the elderly gentleman makes a full and speedy recovery!

To Mr Jones. Every vehicle on the road is an accident waiting to happen. Crossings always have potential for accidents as more people are channelled to cross there. National studies & statistics have shown this. The echo reported earlier this year that Southend Council say that the towns crossings have an average of 1 injury accident per year.
The report states the driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit. Whether this is due to drink, drugs or medication but if it is true the driver was irrisponsible, could have had an accident anywhere on their journey. No one could have predicted where or take appropriate action to stop it unless they had a crystal ball. Anyway, lets not become accident investigation experts on a couple of lines of an Echo report & wait for the Police Investigation report.

However,
As for the sqealing tyres on this particular roundabout, perhaps a survey could be carried during the hours of darkness to monitor the idiot drivers that think it is part of a race track !!
