TWO "potentially vital" witnesses are being sought by police following a crash which has left a man fighting for his life.

The accident happened in Thorpe Hall Avenue,Thorpe Bay, when a male pedestrian was struck by a grey Toyota Yaris on Thorpe Hall Avenue shortly before 12:30pm on Thursday, December 13.

The 69-year-old man from Southend was airlifted to Romford’s Queens Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries. He remains there in a in a critical, life-threatening condition.

Police want to speak to a man who gave first aid at the scene as a witness, and also because the family would like to thank him.

He may have had a dark van.

There is also possibly a woman who approached police as they were talking to the injured pedestrian.

The driver of the Yaris, an 89-year-old man from Southend, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless driving and later released on police bail until Wednesday, March 13, 2013 pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information in connection with this road crash is urged to contact investigating officers at Laindon Road Policing Unit on 101.

Did this happen on the pedestrian crossing there would anyone know? If so i have always had my doubts about its positioning. I do hope the chap recovers soon.

From what I saw he was at the crossing when the car came off the roundabout.
