THE M25 is in chaos after a two lorry smash.

The crash happened at around 2.20pm today when the heavy goods vehicle collided on the carriageway near Thurrock, between the A127 and A13 junctions.

The crash on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 left one driver trapped in the cab of his vehicle and oil and fuel spilling on to the road.

Police had to shut the carriageway, between both junctions, while fire crews from Orsett and Grays spent nearly two hours trying to free the trapped man.

He was eventually taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Emergency crews were expected to keep the clockwise carriageway closed until the early hours of Tuesday while they cleared away the wreckages and the spilt fuel.

Motorists trying to get into Essex from Kent were being diverted off at junction 31 for Lakeside and having to rejoin the motorway further ahead.

The lorry driver, a man in his 20s, suffered multiple injuries and at the time of press police were unable to say which hospital he had been taken to.
