A man was attacked by a machete-wielding maniac as he sat in his car in Hadleigh.
The 37-year-old victim was waiting at the traffic lights in Scrub Lane at about 8.15pm last night when the man knocked on his window.
When he wound the window down, the man demanded the victim, from Benfleet, get out of the car.
When he refused, the man attacked him with a machete leaving him with cuts to his hand and arm.
He was able to drive off - leaving the attacker in the middle of the road.
Dc Rory Scarlett said: "I am appealing for witnesses to this incident to contact me. The victim is unable to provide a detailed description, he can only remember that he was white, large/stocky build with dark brown hair and wearing a t-shirt. I am sure that if you saw this incident you would remember it, so please contact me at Southend CID on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
