A COUPLE are alleged to have built up an ‘Aladdins Cave’ by plundering £100,000 from a dead neighbour’s bank account.

Police raided the home of Inga Kersiene, 38, and Darius Kersys, 37, in St Mary’s Road, Prittlewell, to find a haul of goodies.

These included clothes, an Apollo mountain bike, and an Audi Q7 which was parked outside their house.

They are alleged to have stolen money from the bank accounts of next-door-neighbour William Carrington to pay for their spending.

The pair are now standing trial at Southend Crown Court accused of fraud by false representation.

Prosecutor Richard Scott said: “Darius Kersys and Inga Kersiene were involved together in siphoning over £100,000 from the bank accounts of their recently deceased next-door neighbour,William Carrington.

The manner in which that occurred was relatively unsophisticated.”

He said that after Mr Carrington died in October 2010, aged 86, he had intended his money to be split between three charities.

He had left his estate to Guide Dogs for the Blind, the National Asthma Campaign, and Cancer Research.

But it is alleged that instead Kersiene and Kerys managed to set up online banking on his Natwest account after he died, which they used between January and April 2011.

The trial continues.
