Scott Langley - ready to scoot off for charity
A FATHER-OF-THREE is hoping to raise £10,000 for a children’s charity by riding the length of the UK on a scooter.
Dedicated fundraiser Scott Langley, 37, of Leigh Heights, Hadleigh will be travelling around 1,000 miles from John-o-Groats to Lands End in just 14 days, in a bid to raise vital funds for Little Haven’s Children’s Hospice, in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley.
The gruelling task will see him riding between 10 and 12 hours and travelling around 70 miles a day in order to meet his goal.
Family members, including Scott’s three sons Fraizer, 8, Ned, 4, and Noah, 1, will be manning the finish line ready to cheer and spur him on at the end.
Scott said: “The hardest thing will be being away from my wife and children but I’m on a mission to do something big for these kids.
“Every time I drive past there I feel so bad for them and, at the same time, grateful that as a father I haven’t had to go through what some of those parents are suffering. I just want to do all I can to help them.”
The inspiration for this daunting task has come from Scott’s dad Derek Langley, who died 14 years ago following a heart attack at just 48.
The tragedy kick-started Scott’s determination to not only see the world, but also to do as much as he could to help those around him.
Scott added: “It was such a shock when my dad died, and he has been a massive inspiration for me, which is why I’m starting the ride on the anniversary of his death. It really made me get up and want to see the world and start doing things to help other people.
“Doing the walk last year and helping support a good cause made me feel so good, that I was determined to do something again this year. Hopefully by doing something this difficult people will really get behind me and help me raise a lot of money for the hospice.”
Little Havens, which relies solely on donations, provides essential respite care to children suffering from life-limiting illnesses.
Scott will be starting his journey on June 1 and is hoping to reach a target of £10,000.
