Heavy snow now predicted for Sunday Heavy snow now predicted for Sunday

RESIDENTS of South Essex are being warned to brace themselves for heavy snowfall on Sunday.

Throughout much of Friday and Saturday most areas saw very light flurries of snow throughout the day.

But the Met Office has warned that Essex and other parts of the South East will see the worst of conditions on Sunday.

Snow is expected to begin to fall from 12pm continuing into the night, possibly as late as 9pm.

Forecasters are predicting as much as five to eight centimetres could fall along the Essex coastline, with two to five centimetres in other parts of the county.

WEATHER experts are now saying south Essex should get heavy snowfall on Sunday.
Would these be the same EXPERTS who said we would get heavy snow last Monday, last Wednesday, and yesterday.
Money for old rope being a weather forecaster, for most of the year the weather one day is the same as the day before, then when something different happens they haven't got a clue. Slash their budgets and give them a bit of seaweed to use for forecasting, it will be cheaper and just as accurate.

Great news for the supermarkets who have reaped the benefits from the good old shopper panic buying in preperation for the 'heavy snow' we have been told we were going to get for the past few days .. Not only that, some schools closed early yesterday for no reason, and others have altered plans fearing they would get caught out in adverse weather conditions ...

Is this heavy snow to add to the (cough) four inches we've already received?

5 cm is heavy? I'd say 20 to 30 cm constitutes heavy. Although with 5 cm enough to shut airports and cripple railways I suppose everything is relative.

I am at work in London & driving home tomorrow, so hope the snow stays away. If not, let's hope that SBC do actually send out the gritters, as all evidence I've seen in the past few years is that the A13 is always clear & safe, right up to the borough boundary! Oh, saw my first gritter this evening in Thundersley, so am confident bread & Cheese will be passabel...

Poor typing skills - last few words should read - "so am confident that Bread & Cheese will be passable"

I expect there will be the usual mass school closure tomorrow ?
Here is a comment from someone in the US.

Quote ... " Modern education follows metrics closely. Let's say it is "extreme" weather for a particular area. If 10% of the kids can't make it, then that hits the schools attendance record at the end of the year. So instead of absorbing the bad numbers they call a snow day, and then have an extra day of school at the end, or shave a day off of Christmas break etc.
Attendance is a legal obligation of the parents, so schools will balance what is best for the school with what can be reasonably expected from parents in terms of transportation.
Most parents don't have the option to miss work just because a school decides to have a snow day, and they understand that.
I haven't heard of a law in the U.S. that protects parents from missing work...."
