Bowers Gifford parking concerns infuriate residents

RESIDENTS have voiced concerns over their increasingly congested road caused by school parents parking.

Homeowners have criticised cars who are parking on Ilfracombe Avenue to collect their children from St Margaret’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, which is on adjoining London Road, Bowers Gifford.

Karen Dopson, 45, lives on Ilfracombe Avenue and said she has seen ambulances and hearse cars unable to get up the road due to the volume of cars.

“It is crazy when you see the sheer volume of cars here. There are double yellow lines on the road but cars forgo this by simply pulling completely onto the grass.

“It is infuriating to see tyre-marks cutting up the grass outside our homes and it is about time action was taken.”

A spokesperson for the South Essex Parking Partnership said: “The Partnership has not received any requests for parking restrictions in Ilfracombe Avenue, Bowers Gifford. Ilfracombe Avenue is a residential cul-de-sac and at its junction with London Road has double yellow lines in place.”

Yes inconsiderate parking regularly causes problems.

This could easily be fixed by some double yellow lines and traffic wardens at School pickup and drop-off times.

Alternatively maybe there could be an arrangement with one of the Pubs for parking/dropoff.

Stick some bollards into the verge, they can't park on them. Get a traffic warden or a PCSO along there at pick up / drop off and that'll knock it on the head, or rather, move the problem along to the next street.

At least it'll keep the local residents happy until the next street gets equally infuriated.

Not a lot you can do as this area is no different to any area. These arrogant half witt women will park anywhere and have not got an ounce of respect for anyone. Ive seen them park accross peoples drives, ive seen them driving like idiots because they have 2 or more kids dropping them off at 2 or 3 different schools driving eratic and if their husbands could see the way they drive and park and take the P**S im sure they would take their keys from them.

The biggest problem is that they have to get home by 9.25 in the morning to watch Jeremy Kyle.

Yes there is a problem but the problem is not with the parents they are only doing what they have to and dropping their children at school.

f the school can’t provide adequate parking then what alternative do they have other than park along a road they are legally allowed to. Ok parking on the grass is not really on but as I said what is the alternative?

Parking on a grass verge is really not on, unless the people responsible want to contribute to reinstating the verge.
A few strategically placed concrete blocks should solve that problem.

Quite right what you say and if the parents had a little more consideration for the residents, then the issue would not get out of control.

The South Essex Parking Partnership are run from Chelmsford, so what would they know about this area and it's issues?

If the school provided parking or "helped" to put arrangements in place then there wouldn’t be a problem.

I did say it was for the school to provide i said "if the school can’t provide adequate parking" then something else needs to be put in place.

there are bus stops close enough to the school. Save the parents blocking the pedestrian and cycle paths with their vehicles

I take my kids to this school and have to agree the parents 'do as they like'
I walk my son to school every day no matter the weather.
As I'm doing this I see people who live little more than a few hundred metres away loading their kids into the car because they are to lazy to walk!!
Needless to say they are usually the more spherically challenged amongst us.
The sad thing is some people actually get their over an hour before the school shuts so they can get as close to the school as they can.

All the parents were given a warning letter from Essex police today staying from the 1st Feb there will be zero tolerance on parking. Hopefully you will see some improvement.
