HMV voucher offer from Southend nightclub went down well

REVELLERS left disgruntled with unusable HMV gift vouchers were given a boost this weekend when a nightclub offered discounts to those with the vouchers.

Mayhem nightclub, in Warrior Sqaure, Southend, accepted gift cards as entry payment on Friday and Saturday - with plenty of punters taking advantage of the deal.

The offer stood even though the ailing music chain backtracked last week and allowed thousands of disappointed customers the chance to use the cards instore.

Gav Lloyd, marketing manager at the club, said: “When HMV announced it wasn’t going to take the cards it was like blind robbery as they had taken the money but people weren’t able to use the product.

“On our Twitter and Facebook feeds we found that a lot of our customers were upset and angry that the cards were deemed worthless we thought it would be nice to make them this offer.

“Since then HMV has backtracked and will be accepting the cards, but our offer stayed open.”
