Death rate probe to be launched at Basildon hospital Death rate probe to be launched at Basildon hospital

A PROBE into death rates at Basildon Hospital is to be launched.

The hospital trust is one of five in the country which will be investigated by medical director Sir Bruce Keogh.

The other trusts include Colchester Hospital.

Sir Keogh made the announcement following the publication of the inquiry into mistreatment and neglect of patients at Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.

No need to pay huge amounts of money out for investigations. Staff and unions have been drawing attention to erosion of standards due to staff cuts and understaffing/employ
ing lower graded people to do work which should be done by staff with more experience, employing people who cannot understand/cannot be understood in the English language. Farming out services to private companies etc. - the list goes on and on. All been drawn to senior managers and ministers attention numerous times in the past.
Instead of wasting money on investigations and reports put the money into funding for adequate staff to do the job

We all know that it needs Drs to see a patient every day. nurses to monitor patients hourly and do the tests they should do and not ignore requests for the toilet. This happens at night particularly and I have heard it said of Southend too. We need more nurses not assistants and nurses who will do the work not think they are above it. Assistants can be helpers for feeding and other comforting care. For goodness sake it is only common sense but if there are not enough people onthe ground it has shown at Stafford what can happen.

This doesnt surprise me one little bit.For far too long this Hospital has failed miserably in lots of different areas,just last week i believe it was heavily fined regarding the legionella fiasco which had been going on for years with no improvement.A lot of the staff they employ have not got the basic grasp of English as a spoken language,a fact i encounter often in my job.There have been quite a few cases as well where they have employed people not qualifid for the job they are employed to do,probably with the scantiest of checks at the interview.Lets also not forget the patients they have released with serious problems which were not found during the so called examinations.I have left instructions that should i need hospital care i am not to be taken up there
