Sunday road closures for peace rally
4:12pm Thursday 7th February 2013 in Local News
A PEACE rally is being held on Sunday in Westcliff.
The Faizane Madina mosque is holding the rally from its base in Milton Road.
Southend Council is temporarily closing two roads between 12:45pm and 2:30pm on that day.
Traffic and pedestrians will be prohibited from entering North Road, Westcliff, and Chelmsford Avenue between North Road and Harcourt Avenue.
However, access for residents will be maintained where possible.
Vehicles belonging to Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust, are not affected by these temporary closures.

So, lets get this right... SC will close roads affecting anyone, including residents, that wants to travel through, for a peace rally for a mosque, probably through fear of being called racist, but they wont allow a congregation of cars, in a car park, on the seafront which won't affect anyone as the roads will not be closed.
Yes, you've got that exactly right. well done SBC!

The boy racers are known to cause issues with litter, noise and their standard of driving, they have said they will bring the entire seafront to a stand still, a mjaor road in Southend, they have not said how long it will go on for or what safety procedures have been put in place, they just said we WILL do it, the peace rally has been arranged with the police and council being contacted and everything being put in place as it should.

A peace rally for a local mosque, that has given no details about its rally apart from peace, is something that nobody cares about. What is the peace rally for? Who will benefit from it?
Joe W... Boy racers are known for all those things. The seafront will still be passable by all, because the road will not be shut. This was all posted on facebook, and clearly states its 8.30pm until 10.30pm. Safety is not a concern, the vehicles are insured if any such incedent were to happen. Why should the council be told that people will be parking in a car park? Why should the police be told? Do you tell tesco and the police you will be going out for an hour and parking in a car park?

The peace rally people HAVE spoken to the Police and Council, what you have read about it is all that the Echo have published.
A few questions:
Is this cruise being run for charity?
Will there be First Aid on stand by?
Has a Traffic Flow Management Procedure been drawn up should the energency services require access to any part of the site you intend to take over?
Has a health & Safety Assessment been conducted?
Have to drawn up an Emergency Procedures Plan, for your event marshals to put in place to aid the evacuation of spectators should any incident happen?
Have you got marshals that hold an accredited qualification in event marshalling?
Do the organisers hold public liability insurance?
If you answer any of these with no than that is why this event should not go ahead, you can get temporary cover which is what a lot of events do to make them legal.

Just so you know, the public space we intend to use is a car park! We are using a car park that would otherwise be empty on a cold february evening.
Why should any motorist that pays to insure, tax and MOT their car be stopped from using it where they want to, unless its private property?
Yes, all I know about this peace rally is what the echo have published, which isn't very much. My question about who benefits from the peace rally still hasn't been answered, Whereas, the people that will benefit from the car rally are all the small businesses, arcades and cafe's on the seafront, that will make a profit at a time of the year when it is usually quiet. Southend is slowly becoming a no-go area, because everything is old, and needs rejuvinating, and its not possible to, because SC rely on tourism, which isnt going to happen if they stop people from coming to the town!

Typical leftie - start screaming 'bigot' or 'nazi' once you have lost any argument / credibility.
Isn't a mosque a church by another name anyway? You're just sh*t stirring trying to invoke a muslem V christain argument because you have nothing to offer to the origianal - why one group have legal access and the others don't.
Typical marxist. 'Two wheels good, four or more bad' regardless.
Bloody troll.
If enough cars turned up there's not much Plod could do anyway. Summons everyone for driving legally on the highway??

What’s so wrong with people parking their cars in a car park so other enthusiasts can look at them.
Why does it have to be called 'AN EVENT'
7:35pm Fri 8 Feb 13
Joe Wildman-Clark says...
Yes it is a public car park but if it is taken over by cruisers members of the public will feel intimidated and stay away from a public car park is that fair on them?
If there is an accident in the car park how will the emergency service be able to attend to the injured parties if the car park is swarming with people and cars parked haphazardly?
There are ways to organise events and the way this cruise has been arranged has been wrong from the outset, which is why it should not be permitted to go ahead.
