A SCHOOLBOY with links to the notorious “Get Paid Daily” gang has been sent to a young offender’s institution - after he asked to be locked up.

he 16-year-old, who lives in Southend, appeared before youth court where he refused to comply with any community order handed to him.

The court heard how the youth had said he wanted to be sent into custody after confirming he was part of the notourious GPD gang who cause trouble across Southend.

The Echo has reported how the gang has been linked with a series of robberies since last summer.

Police have now taken to applying for “gang injunctions” which prevent known members associating with each other or wearing hoods or the gang’s trademark red face scarves.

This teenager had been arrested for breaching a Youth Rehabilitation Order designed to be a final chance before custody.

Offenders who get this order must attend appointments with the Youth Offending Service, but he had repeatedly failed to show up.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, which was found after police stopped a group of youngsters in Southchurch Road, Southend, and searched them.

His previous court order had been given to him for another offence in Southchurch Road where five youths were arrested following an attack on two men.

The boy was sentenced to four months in a young offenders institution.
