Canvey councillors react after families gardens are sold at auction
3:10pm Thursday 28th February 2013 in Local News
Residents have been left deflated following the auction
COUNCILLORS have reacted angrily to four families losing their front gardens to an anonymous bidder at an auction.
The neighbours from Marine Parade, Beck Road and Zider Pass tried to buy the land, which is owned by Essex County Council, when it went under the hammer on Monday, February 25 but they could not match the top bid of £4,800.
After renting the strips of land for up to 25 years, the affected residents said they had tried to buy them on numerous occasions over the years, but were allegedly turned down by the county council.
Local councillors Ray Howard and Dave Blackwell have both been working on the issue on behalf of the families.
Canvey county councillor Mr Howard said he will now be meeting the county council’s cabinet member for finance David Finch again to talk to him about the photographs displayed at the auction.
The neighbours claim the images shown were not of the correct plot and the buyer will be “shocked” when they see what they have bought.
Mr Howard said: “If that is the case the whole thing is a mockery and needs to be looked into and I will take it up with David Finch.
“I am disappointed they were not able to purchase the land - to my judgement it’s only of any use to those residents that front on to it so I do sympathise with them.”
Mr Blackwell, leader of the Canvey Independent Party, had also been asked to help the families when they first learnt the land was going to be sold.
He added: “I’m bemused by it all. Someone has bought those front gardens with no idea what they are buying.
“The way these residents have been treated is absolutely disgraceful.”

A bit late to show your support, now the auction has passed, or is it the case, that being elected councillors, you've got to say your worthless six pennerth worth ?

In the original editorial the Echo said They claim they received no notification of the sale, and despite meetings being held at County Hall between Canvey councillor Ray Howard and the cabinet member for finance and transformation, David Finch, the auction still went ahead.

Try attending Neighbourhood Meetings, not that this came up at the last one. You missed the last one, clearly don't actually buy the " Echo" or you would know what I raised as I said I would. Ask your Councillors what was raised or Castle Point Council if it was minuted, Which again if you did either of the above you would know exactly what went on. For someone so critical and so apparently concerned about Canvey and the CIIP you actually do naff all but criticise under a pseudynom.. Try getting involved if you really care.

Then you behave like an angry young man, which from your previous posts, it is obvious you are not. From what you have said about these meetings it is not worth attending so why keep going on about me being there, you seem to be consumed by the need to meet me!!!
Well I have spoken with councillors who where there and have attended in the passed, as I have, and they only thing that sticks in their mind above all else is a very old cantankerous person who is against every thing unless it's his idea, by all accounts he has been like it for years. When he stood for election as a Lib Dem the voter's did not believe him either.
If you have something to say about previous dubious sales, name and shame people dont hide behind a dodgy memory and give proof of your accusations so people can defend themselves and or take you to court, or put another way PUT UP or SHUT UP..

Just like you don't appear to not buy the "Echo" , but still comment. You were not at the meeting either. I said I would bring another matter of concern to me, about Castle Point Council which I did. Don't expect me to tell you what if you couldn't be bothered to turn up you really not that interested in what goes on Canvey just criticise. Easy to criticise when you do nothing.
So what you say in the last five words of your post actually applies to you.

You see you still cannot provide one piece of evidence that you have actually got involved with anything on Canvey, just been critical of anyone, other than Councillor Howard who has got involved and try to get Canvey a better place to live. Tell me what you have actually got involved with, just one.
