A BUNCH of talented youngsters are making a dazzling impact on the stage by travelling across the country to compete and performing at some of the most famous venues in Europe.

After bringing in its biggest ever haul of trophies and silverware over the past six months, dancers at the Canvey-based Star Studios of Performing Arts are now gearing up for two big shows.

About 40 of the school’s young members are currently rehearsing for a special performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May.

Its students have also been invited to take part in a glittering show at Disneyland Paris in July for the second time.

Both shows are being run by Mardi Gras - an organisation that offers young dance groups the chance to perform on famous stages in London and abroad.

One of the school’s principals, Debbie Acevedo, 52, said being asked to go back to perform in Paris is “quite an honour”.

She said: “We’ve got an exciting year ahead and we’re so proud of the girls. They have done particularly well these last six months at festivals across the country.

“We’ve never won so many trophies in solos, quartets and groups - they have done brilliantly and it‘s a nice release from the syllabus work, otherwise it‘s all exams.

“With competitions it‘s a nice thing they can do for themselves.”

Dancing at the Royal Albert Hall will give the youngsters an opportunity to give a 360 degree performance to an audience of up to 5,000 people, while the show at Disneyland Paris will see the south Essex team join 20 other schools for a night of theatre.

Locally it will also be performing at Canvey Carnival in the summer on July 13.

The school is appealing for anyone who has a flat-backed van or lorry to get in touch so students can use it as their stage for the afternoon.
